Pilot and copilot killed in collision between jet and fire truck at New York’s LaGuardia Airport

An Air Canada regional jet collided with a fire truck on the runway at New York's LaGuardia Airport late Sunday night, resulting in the deaths of the pilot and copilot. The aircraft, carrying 72 passengers and four crew members, originated from Montreal. The fire truck was reportedly crossing the runway to respond to a separate incident on a United Airlines flight. In the aftermath of the crash, 39 passengers and crew members were hospitalized, though most have since been released. Two Port Authority employees in the fire truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The collision caused significant damage to the jet's nose and the emergency vehicle. Air traffic control transmissions indicated an attempt to stop the fire truck before the crash. LaGuardia Airport remained closed until at least 2 p.m. Monday to allow for an investigation led by the National Transportation Safety Board. The incident caused widespread flight cancellations and disruptions for travelers.
